My only question is how was the parachute deployed and attached?

The parachute was attached by rope to both the balloon and the capsule. We used duct tape and zip ties to secure the parachute to the balloon and the capsule. So the order goes top to bottom: Balloon-Parachute-capsule. When the balloon pops, the parachute simply opens up. Unlike parachutes during skydiving, the parachute doesn’t need to be “packed” and therefore is already deployed when the balloon pops.

Hey,

Ok so I have several questions if you could kindly take out few minutes to answer them I would highly appreciate it :)

1) I needed a J-pole antenna for 900Mhz for the balloon? Do you have any idea if you used any antenna for the balloon?
2) Did you use like a canvas bag or something for the capsule?
3) I needed to design a bird cage kinda thing for my parachute that will be attached to the capsule, I needed to know exact details on how you attach the parachute? (How do you tie it up, how do you know it will unfold etc.)

Thanks a lot :)

I’m not quite sure about what you are asking for the first two questions. But third question:

If you tie the parachute between the balloon and the capsule, then the parachute will automatically deploy when the balloon pops. This is not like a rocket parachute if which the parachute is compacted within the capsule to improve aerodynamics. Since the balloon is not moving very fast, you can just have the balloon already deployed as it is rising.

I used three 18″ parachutes, hoping that if one failed, I had two as a backup. What ended up happening though is everything looked to have gotten tangled on the ascent.

I would recommend anyone attempting launches, properly secure their “payload” with more than one string from the suspension device. The more anchor points, the less likely to twist up the cord.

hope this helps,
